Don’t be your product’s only user

A lot of people say that entrepreneurs should start a product or service that they themselves would use. That’s fine, but don’t be your startup’s only early user.

The problem with building for a single user — even if you consider yourself an especially average or desirable market — is:

  • You are throwing out the many other users, use cases, and problems that you could solve.
  • You are probably blind to shortcomings that external parties will immediately point out.
  • You are not a paying customer.

Let the market drive your product, not a single founder.
