ABL: Always Be Learning
One of the things I always tell new grads is to never stop learning. I think there’s a misconception — especially among those considering “bootcamp” style programs — that once you go through the training, you’ll get a job and you’ll be happily employed forever. Not true; you have to continue learning and growing.
So in that effort, I spent a lot of time this weekend learning and building my first Ruby on Rails app in years. I don’t use the language or the framework at work, but I’ve found that learning new languages helps me gain new perspectives on the ones I use every day. I also think that as a technical lead it’s important to have a handle on a wide range of technology options. You never know what the future will bring.
