This season of Gimlet’s podcast, Startup, is all about Dov Charney, former CEO and founder of American Apparel. Regardless of your views on the company’s clothing — it’s mostly too tight and small for big guys like me — he’s been a controversial figure since the company became a well known American retailer.
The podcast spends a lot of time going into details of his creative obsession and his sexual deviance — probably Dov’s two most defining characteristics. Some people argue that Dov’s behavior is personal or even a normal part of the fashion industry. Others say that it outshadows his company’s good work creating jobs and promoting women.
It’s an interesting listen, so if you’re into podcasts I’d recommend giving Startup a listen.
